Q: Aren't all the Telus Mobility stores the same? They are all Telus Mobility right?
A: Telus Mobility sell its products through corporately owned retail locations as well as Telus Mobility independent dealers. The standard Telus Mobility products and service plans are identical in both sales channels. Each independent Telus Mobility dealer must adhere to the standards Telus Mobility sets out for them, and to decide how far above that standard they will provide customer service and support.
Q. What is a trimode phone?
A. The Telus Network consists of 2 digital frequencies and 1 analog frequency. A trimode phone has the ability to operate in all three of these frequencies which means better coverage for you. Not all phones are Trimode.
Q. What is the importance of a trimode phone?
A. There are 3 different frequencies (2 digital, 1 analog) used in TELUS cellular coverage in Canada and the US. A trimode phone will allow you to access any 1 of these frequencies depending on what is available in your area. If a phone is not trimode it may be unable to access 1 or more of the frequencies available and be unable to take full advantage of coverage in your area.
Q. What is the importance of a 1X phone versus just a regular CDMA digital phone?
A. 1X phones and PCS phones look and function in exactly the same manner from a user perspective. The difference being 1X phones can transmit data at a much faster rate then a regular PCS phone when connected to a laptop or other device.
Q: I don't have any voicemail, but my little envelope is still showing up on the screen of my phone - how do I get rid of that?
A: You should check under your menu feature "Messaging" to see if you maybe have a text message. Also under your messaging feature, there usually is an "erase messages" item that you can select. Clear your messages and see if the indicator turns off. If that doesn't work, you may need to call Telus customer service to have them reset your visual indicator (*611 on cell or 732-2901).
Q: How come my first phone bill is so high when the plan I signed up for is a lower price?
A: Telus uses a standard billing practice that many service providers use called pro-rated billing. This means that billing begins on the date you activate and goes forward one month in advance. If your first bill arrives three weeks after you get your phone, the total billing will be for that first three weeks, plus the next full month in advance. After the first mailing, your bills will be closer to your normal expectation.
Q: How come TELUS doesn't use GSM? Isn't GSM the global standard?
A: Although many countries use GSM (Europe, Asia), that service is actually going through a transition to a new standard called GPRS. Telus uses another technology called CDMA 1Xrtt which is proven to be a more reliable network with less dropped calls. The CDMA network in Canada and the USA is much larger than any GSM network, so your TELUS phone works in more areas in Canada and the US then a GSM phone would.
